# Draft a document with Workover AI Describe a document and Workover AI writes the first draft in one of your projects. Drafting runs in the background, so you can start several drafts, leave the page and come back when they are ready. **Before you start:** - Your workspace needs an AI provider chosen under **Settings** > **AI**, either **Workover AI** (included with a paid plan) or **Your own key**. See [Choose who provides Workover AI](/docs/choose-ai-provider/). - You need to be a workspace member, not a guest, and the workspace needs at least one project. ## Draft from the workspace home 1. Go to your workspace home. 2. In the prompt box under **What do you want to create?**, describe the document you want. Press **Shift+Enter** for a new line. **Enter** on its own submits the brief. 3. Optional: paste up to 4 images into the box, for example a screenshot of a written brief or of the UI copy you are documenting. To remove one, hover over it and select **Remove image**. 4. Select **Draft it**, or press **Enter**. 5. Watch the draft in the **Drafting** tray under the prompt box. The card shows the draft’s progress and, for a draft that reads your repository, how many files it has read. You can leave the page; the tray is still there when you come back. 6. When the card shows **Draft ready**, select **Open**. You also get a notification that your AI draft is ready, so you do not need to keep the page open. The draft goes into the project you last opened in the workspace, or into its first project if you have not opened one. The workspace home does not show which, so to pick the project yourself, use the next section. ## Draft into a specific project 1. Go to `/app/new`. The **New document** page opens. 2. Choose a **Workspace** and a **Project**. 3. Describe the document in the box under **What do you want to create?** and select **Draft it**. To write it yourself instead, optionally type a **Title** and select **Start blank**. Pasting images into the brief works only on the workspace home, not on the **New document** page. After you select **Draft it**, Workover takes you to the workspace home, where the draft appears in the **Drafting** tray. ## If Workover asks a question first Some briefs get a question before any writing starts. ### A plan for several articles If your brief reads like a set of articles rather than one, Workover shows a plan instead of drafting. 1. Check the plan. You can edit each article’s title and remove articles you do not want. **Plan as** switches between **Documentation** (product documentation) and **Content** (marketing or SEO). 2. Select **Draft N articles** to draft the whole set, where N is the number of articles in the plan. To ignore the plan, select **Write one article instead**. ### Whether to read your code If the project has a linked repository that your AI provider can read, and the brief might benefit from it, Workover asks before reading the code, because it adds a few minutes. On the workspace home: - **Check the repo** grounds the draft in the code. - **Draft now** writes from the brief alone. - **Edit prompt** lets you change the brief first. On the **New document** page, the same choice is **Read the repo** or **Skip it**. See [Grounding drafts in your code repository](/docs/grounding-drafts-in-github/). ## After the draft Read it before you publish. A draft is a starting point, not a finished piece. If the document shows a banner such as **Not grounded in your code.**, it was written without reading your repository, so check its technical details closely. To change the draft, ask for revisions with **Iterate** in the document’s AI tab. See [Revising a document with AI](/docs/iterating-on-a-draft/). ## Troubleshooting | Message | What to do | | --- | --- | | No AI key connected.
